Level 1. Literal Meaning (we find evidence in the text)
  • The caves are 8 km long
  • The caves are also 72km
  • It took five days
Level 2. Inferential Meaning (we read between the lines to infer what the writer has implied)
  • The travel thow the caves
  • Many species of plants grow in caves
  • It takes days to get from 1 end to the other
Level 3. Applied Meaning (we decide what the author might think or may want us to think from what has been said-we make a link to the text from our own experiences)
  • I might want to go caving
  • The  men discovered something new
  • Manthe like maping
